The first Mercedes model, distinguished from the main range by its compactness and economy (the W201 body), appeared in the early 1980s. It was a very good move, allowing the concern to increase its market share seriously. In 1993, it was replaced by the model W202. At the same time, the brand changed the naming system of the models, so the novelty became known as the used Mercedes Benz C class for sale.

Initially, the novelty went into production in two bodies - a 4-door sedan (W203) and 3-door liftback (which marketers defined as a coupe CL203), but a year later, these two types were added to a station wagon S203.

The first generations of the C-Class (W201-W202) were surprised by its huge durability. The car with a W203 body has noticeably lost its ancestors' stock of durability. The problems were often with electronic stuffing and some mechanical units. Serious troubles were fortified by unfortunate trifles. Having chosen the wrong exemplar, one could "get into trouble" for serious money.

Despite the extensive development of the C-class W204 (five years and huge investments in testing), the engines on the pre-styled cars (until 2011) remained almost the same as in the predecessor. Only two four-cylinder units have been slightly updated: petrol 1.8-liter with mechanical compressor and diesel 2.2-liter version (though each of them has two degrees of forcing). But the six-cylinder units were taken over to W204 without any changes. After the upgrade, the range of engines was updated with only one new engine (gasoline six M276 3.5 liter with direct injection on a version C 350 CGI, which added 14 hp).

The current used Mercedes Benz C-class has become much more sporty, largely due to the fact that instead of the traditional Mercedes-Benz worm steering received rack and pinion steering, and instead of the double-wishbone front suspension - the usual "Mc-Ferson".

How does the new suspension behave? As a whole - not bad, though there are some weaknesses in it. For example, silent blocks of the lower longitudinal arms, powerful as they look, serve 18-30 thousand miles on average on our roads. But replacing them is not burdensome. The levers, which have to be replaced due to ball bearings wear, could also be more durable. However, their durability can be already recognized as acceptable.

The traditional Mercedes rear multi lever suspension is rather enduring and approximately equally durable. A little weak in it the external silent blocks of the lower transverse levers (but their replacement, again, inexpensive). All other levers last over 60,000 miles. However, if backlash appears in one of the pivot joints with the replacement of this silent block or lever, it's best not to drag it out. Otherwise, it will quickly break the rest of the already tired joints.
