The largest SUV of Mercedes is now called GLS. The "S" at the end of the name means that it is the S-Class among SUVs. The name is new, but it is our old acquaintance. Before the restyling, the born GL was the off-road flagship of the firm without any additions to the title.
Perhaps, used Mercedes Benz GLS for sale has no analogs on comfort: both X7 and even Range Rover, which also have pneumatic cylinders instead of springs, lose Mercedes completely. Feelings from driving on asphalt which has dissolved during the winter are fantastic: like, here is a hole in front of which all small-capacity cars brake. And it should be transmitted to the body. GLS, having slightly shaken the fat five-meter side, overcomes a pothole silently and unperturbed.
Mercedes has the following advantages:
- Driving. Soft, lulling family couch. That's what's good about it.
- Interior. Comfortable, modern, but for many conservatives will seem too "advanced".
- Comfort. All the competitors just destroy. The most comfortable SUV in its weight class.
- Safety. Germans, as always, stuffed the novelty with everything they could.
The second generation of full-size seven-seat crossover appeared in 2012. Initially, the car was designated by the abbreviation GL, and after the restyling in 2015 in addition to minor external metamorphosis has changed its name - the SUV has tried on the nameplate GLS. Production of the model is set up in America, in the state of Alabama. In our country, the SUV was sold with petrol V6 (333 hp) and V8 (435 hp, and since 2015 - 455) of 3.0 and 4.7 liters capacity respectively, and also diesel three-liter "six" of 249 and 258 powers.
All engines are paired exclusively with a nine-speed automatic, and the transmission is only all-wheel drive with a torque distribution ratio of 35/65 between the front and rear axles.
When buying a used Mercedes GLS 450, the first thing to check is the body. But not because its durability is questionable. On the contrary. The body of the flagship SUV is a priori strong, the metal itself is very durable, and the paintwork is highly resistant to corrosion. A thorough inspection is necessary to identify poor-quality repair after accidents. But the decorative elements give up rather quickly under the onslaught of chemical reagents.
On the oldest, i.e. four-year-old examples, a chrome covering quite often becomes turbid and even swells. However, it is not a big trouble. These details can be easily replaced, and the second owners, as a rule, treat them with an armor film.
Despite the presence of very complex and expensive stuffing, the second generation of used Mercedes GLS is quite possible to buy used. True, it is impossible to ignore diagnostics and better all car systems - from a body to an undercarriage and electronics. It will facilitate your life in the future and will help to avoid unforeseen expenses. It is not necessary to chase after powerful modifications - it's better to be satisfied with V6 versions. They are not inferior in dynamics to cars with V8 but thus are much cheaper in maintenance.
The GLS is based on the MHA (Mercedes High Architecture) modular platform, on which the GLE is also based. The crossovers share the same front end and the interiors are almost identical. Traditional and high-quality trim materials are successfully combined with high-tech monitors and virtual dashboards in the cabin. And if you consider such boldness as a blow to traditional values, such transition will require getting used to. The system's pluses include an "augmented reality" function for the navigation system, which draws the direction indicator arrows directly over the image from the video camera. You won't miss a difficult junction.
